三宅島の噴火（1）
2000年6月27日に始まった三宅島の噴火は、7月8日から雄山の山頂噴火に移行するとともに、山頂部が陥没を始め、最終的には、直径約1.5㎞、深さ約500ｍの小規模なカルデラを生ずるに至った。山頂噴火はその後も続き、8月に入ると次第に激しさを増し、18日には噴煙が15㎞の高さにまで達する大規模な噴火が発生した。また、8月29日には、低温の火砕流も発生して山腹を流下した。この事態を受けて、9月1日、東京都は全島民の避難を決定、三宅村は島外への避難指示を発令し、全島民約3.800人が本土へ避難した。
Eruption of Miyakejima (1)
The eruption on Miyakejima that began on June 27, 2000 shifted to a summit eruption on Mt. Oyama on July 8, and the summit began to cave in, eventually resulting in an eruption of about 1.5 km in diameter and about 500 m deep. This led to the formation of a small caldera. The summit eruption continued after that, gradually becoming more intense in August, and on the 18th, a large-scale eruption occurred with plumes reaching a height of 15 km. Additionally, on August 29, a low-temperature pyroclastic flow occurred and flowed down the mountainside. In response to this situation, on September 1st, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government decided to evacuate all islanders, and Miyake Village issued an evacuation order to leave the island, and approximately 3,800 islanders evacuated to the mainland.
